Cool badge

Pictures of Vulcan in the 60ies

I just got this cool Badge from a very good friend of mine.
Vulcan is the name of the vw dealership of my hometown Silkeborg, and the place where my dad was a mechanic i the 60ies.
When I called my dad to tell him that I got one of these badges, the first thing he said was the phone number you see on the badge, I guees he must have called in sick alot since he still remembers :-)
He wasn´t sure though were they exactly were located on a oval dash, he knew for sure were to put it on the "new" dash august 57 and up, so until he remembers I have put it just above my Motometer rallygauge set.

1000 Hits

I have taken some inspiration from my 6Volt friends and added a 6V babe for the first 1000 hits.

Summertime

Today both Jens and I took this years first drive in our seperate ovals.
It was really nice to drive proper car again.
Here is just a couple of pictures of our cars taken today.

it´s a rainy day.

A old commercial from 1958 showing the wipers, it´s taken from the danish
vw magazine "Kør godt" it is danish version of the german "Gute Fahrt"

As you might know I am a big fan of accessories!
So when I had a chance to get these "full Screen wipers" I surely jumped on the deal.
I have only seen 2 other sets, but surely there must be others out there!
I mostly prefer cruising in the sun with the ragtop open, but somehow I am also looking forward to seeing these wipers in action!
Thank you John for letting me have these :-)

Strap it on

A before picture of one of the filters.

The same filter a little later.

Jens and I are in the middle of restoring 4 of these 54-55 air cleaners.
They aren´t exactly easy to come by, but with a little patience I have collected the 3 for my future projects, and the last one is for Jens' 54.
I started out by washing them, so the old oil and grease would come off, and when they had dried I beadblasted them, so now they are ready for some paint.

No more blind spots.

Look in the far corner of the picture.

Oval now wearing big window and late taillight.

I have received these pictures from some friends of mine, they are from a danish workshop in the early 60ies which was specialized in changing oval splits and even old Volvos rearwindows, so the car look like the "new" model.
It is really scary to see all those oval and split window cut outs don´t you think?

Abarth exhaust

A couple of old commercials.

Here is one on Jens oval.

Here is my own.
The original Abarth exhausts are rare and far between!
So when I for some years ago put a Judson on the 54 I wanted one! But when I rarely saw one offered for sale they were way over my budget, and many times they were NOS and it would almost be a shame to put them in to use.
But I guess this is almost the only way they survive from the rust.
So I decided to make my own copy from a original exhaust.
I realise that it is not build up inside with the same baffles and stuff like a real Abarth, but it gives a nice look and especially sound I think.

Almost there.

These 2 54 ovals are just receiving some final adjustments before they are ready for some summer cruising now we only need the weather!

Swap meet Aalborg

Yesterday I drove through the snow to Aalborg to check out their swap meet.
There were some good deals made, I personally got a set of 30hp heater boxes for a future engine project.
I was surprised to see several aircooled cars were driven there through snowy and salty roads.

Dyno

Here is a video from last summer were I had the oval on a dyno in Horsens, so I could get the air/fuel mixture regulated.
On the final run it made 45,8HP and 97NM of torque.
Anyone else had their vintage speed engines dyno tested?
Then send me the video or pictures and I will put it up here.

The return of Herbie

My trusty daily driver doing what it does best collecting old wolfburg metal.

One of my friends daughter had a Herbie replica as a daily driver from her 18 year and to her mid 20es. Now she wnats her old car back, only but is the body have some serious rust issues.
So hed found another body with minimal rust but there was no ragtop in it, he asked if I would graft it in, and that was what I did last night, I worked until 3 in the morning before I was finnished.

Almost nos 30hp engine

Here is my latest find a 30ps industrial engine with only 47hours on it.
I saw it in an advert stating that it was a 25hp but no pictures, and the owner was a elderly guy with no digital camera knowledge, so I took the chance and drove about 130km to see what i was. I t turned out to be this 1955 engine with strop over airfilter big 36mm generator and old oilbreather, all these parts I needed for the Express engine, so I bought it and even got a nos 30ps exhaust in the deal as the one on the engine was very bad because of bad storage of the engine.
