Express heaven
Sorry for the missing update these days but time just seems to fly away, but there is still vw activity, so don´t you worry!
At the moment my crank is at a danich racing shop called West Speed for balancing, and new bearings are ordered so they are ready when the crank is done.
Yesterday I received yet another set of Express manifolds, so there are currently 3 sets of these in my garage, only 2 of the sets are mine though.

Going camping
These days everyone wants a bus, since it so much easier when going to shows, you simply have everything in a bus.
But who needs a bus? When you have this old IKU Auto Tent.
As a matter of fact I have owned this for some years now, but never got around to use it, nor even trying to put it up to see how it looked.
So the other day I decided that now was the time. It was smaller than I thought, and I guess you have to sleep in the car since it covers all the windows, and the lack of bottom inside the tent.
I think it looks pretty cool, but with all the parts I am buying these days something else has to go. And this tent will soon be handed over to another serious collector not living far from me.

Sleeping in
Well having my summer holiday these days, my plan was to get some work done on the house, it needs to get painted outside. But since it´s raining alot I had to find something else to do with my time, funny enough it turned out to envolve old vw´s.
So in this past week I have scored a 1951 danish instruction book, it´s the first year it was written in danish. A nice 1954 front bonnet, with the correct small reinforcements (not an easy task to track one of those down) And finally a complete set of early oval front seats with a complete set of Hüls recliners on them. Now I will have to restore the seat frames, and then replace with my own seatcovers on these frames.
A nice detail on the Hüls that I first spotted after bringing them home, is that they are date back to 1954, is that cool or what?

Nice company
Last friday I attended yet another classic car meet.
It have only existed for 5 years. Back then I was there for the first meeting and I guess there was about 30-40 cars. This year we were over 200.
Not much say about the meeting besides mentioning the car I was parked beside, it was a 1938 Mercedes and it was oh so cool!

The wolf is protecting the oval
Several years ago I bought this gear stick lock from a danish collector. It was in a nice shape and even had "the always missing" rubber boot with it. But it was missing the key, and as a person always wanting my things to work, and not just to put items on the car not forfilling the purpose, it is intented to do, I dropped it of at my local locksmith. For a fair price he unlocked it and made me 2 new keys. But I must admit that it have only been locked 5-10 times, but the important thing is that I know it works.
There are several styles of locks and I will not tell about them all since I don´t have that much knowledge about them. But I think they are cool!!

Saving old metal part 3
I was recommended another sandblaster than I normally use. So I called him yesterday to get the front fenders blasted. And he turned out to be just the right man for the job! Not only could I pick both fenders up after only 2 hours, but he was also cheap at price and very very good at his job! So today I have closed most of the small holes after the blasting, and I only need to replace one of the wire tubes.

Picking up parts
On Jens and my recent trip - the Bug´s Funny meeting - we started off from home with a hidden agenda: we were out to pick up parts in the other end of the country that we not usually visit.
And we both came home very happy, the score was: 1 30hp flywheel that have been lighted and balanced for the Express engine, 1 rear left side original pre 1960 fender, it´s completely rot free the only little problem was some dents near the runningboard, but I have already taken care of that, and a set of almost rot free 1954 doors with everything on them, glass, handles etc, and a NOS Hella spotlight mirror for mounting on the hinge pin on the door. Jens came home with a right side pre 64 pop out window.
Even though we came home with all these parts, it turned out that we now need parts that we didn´t need before. I need 1 orginal right rear side pre 1960 fender maybe even only the front half of one, I also need the mounting arm for my Hella spotlight.
And Jens needs a left side pre 1964 pop out, do you have any of these parts then feel free to email me.

Saving old metal part 2
My 2 front fenders are now almost rot free, that is really nice, but the left one was quite a bitch! The hole lower part of it was almost gone. I took a repro fender I had lying as a donor, only problem is that not even the lower part of a org and a repro fender are exchangeable. the curve were no where near the same! but with a little work and some patience it became quite good if I should say so myself.
Next up blasting and taking care of some small dents and of course the holes that properly will appear after the blasting.
